Oh what a thrill to the soul

to see the tail of a whale from shore

First a breach, then the huge tail flops, flops, flops in playful joy

My heart skips in remembrance

Then a baby surfaces

halfway out of the ocean

Following mama, the eternal teacher

Tiny tail flops, flops, flops in playful joy

as nature intended

Passed down through millennia

I recognize my childlike wonder

Oh what a thrill to the soul
