POEM

Go outside and play

It’s such a nice day

My Mother would say

And I would gladly obey

As I grew and chose a career

I never considered the things I hold dear

Like sunshine, the earth, breezes and the sea

Instead a corporate life was ahead of me

Forced inside, away from the sun

In an office with no windows, simply no fun

I wanted to run outside and play

Not sit in meetings every day!

So you young ones please think

Before you become a shrink

Or a lawyer, ad guru or corporate dink

Could you swim in the sea

Study diseases on trees

Become an expert on bees

Plant hops for good beer

Maybe raise goats, sheep or steer

Could you sail or boat

Teach kids how to float

Or make homemade soap

Plant veggies and fruit for sale

Like tomatoes, lemons and kale

Maybe deliver the mail

Its something I wish was clear

When I chose my career

What I really hold dear
